Editorial Policy
Our research standards, sourcing and the honest limits of online advice.
We want our content to be genuinely useful and honest about its limits. This policy explains how we work.
Our sources
We prioritise trustworthy, verifiable sources, including:
- GOV.UK and UK Health Security Agency guidance
- the NHS, for health-related information
- Citizens Advice and official devolved-government housing guidance
- recognised building-science references and technical standards, where legally accessible
Where we cite a source we show the publisher, the link, the relevant UK nation and the date we accessed it. We clearly distinguish England-specific rules from those in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
How content is reviewed
Articles are researched and written by our editorial team and checked for accuracy and clarity. Each article shows a publication date and a last-reviewed date. We only label an article "expert reviewed" when a named, suitably qualified reviewer has actually checked it — we never imply expertise we do not have.
What we will not do
- Diagnose a specific problem, or a mould species, from a photograph.
- Invent statistics, studies, product tests, reviews or professional qualifications.
- Present cost estimates as independently surveyed quotations.
- Recommend expensive treatment as a default without considering simpler causes.
Corrections
If you spot an error, please contact us. We will review and, where appropriate, correct the content and update the review date.
Health and safety information
For topics touching on health, we use cautious, evidence-based language drawn from UK public-health bodies, and we signpost professional help where appropriate. Our guidance is not medical advice.
